These are only issued with a doctor's authorisation. If you have repeat prescriptions you can order them online or you can use the re-order slip (white, right hand side of the prescription) to request further prescriptions. To ask for a repeat prescription either hand in your re-order slip to your designated chemist or at the surgery.
Always allow ample time. Be sure not to run out. Allow at least two full working days (prescriptions can be collected after 4pm after the two full working days) if you hand it in to the surgery or five working days for postal requests. If you use a chemist ask when it can be collected. Prescriptions can be collected in person from the surgery or will be posted back if you provide a stamped addressed envelope.
When ordering repeat medication please allow at least 2 working days (this excludes weekends and Bank Holidays), for your request to be processed.
Prescriptions ordered before 6pm will be ready to collect after 4pm two working days after receipt of your order. For example if you order on a Friday your prescription will be ready to collect after 4pm on Tuesday. Any problems please telephone the surgery.
Occasionally due to training or bank holidays there may be a delay when collecting your prescription. Please check our closure dates and training dates to ensure you do not run out of medication.
Ordering your repeat medication has never been easier. 24 hour access to repeat prescription ordering is now available to those with internet access. The same rules apply as when ordering in person i.e. prescriptions ordered before 6pm will be ready to collect after 4pm two working days after receipt of your order. For example if you order on a Saturday your prescription will be ready to collect after 4pm on Wednesday. Only items on repeat can be ordered online. Click here to find out more
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 13 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
